an evening with the … pretenders

Thu 22 February 2024

The Pretenders took the UK charts by storm at the close of the ‘seventies with their “hit-filled” debut album. Fronted by the American, Chrissie Hynde, the band was often considered the British “Blondie”, and hit after hit followed through the ‘eighties.

Tonight’s show – the brainchild of Steel Pulse’s founder & songwriter, Basil Gabbidon – celebrates the impact that the Pretenders had on the music scene at the time. A five-piece band with the tremendous Rae Reid on vocals play two sets simply full of hits, such as “Brass in Pocket”,  “Stop Your Sobbing”, “Kid”, “Talk of the Town”, “I Go to Sleep”, “Back on the Chain Gang”, “Don’t Get Me Wrong” and so many more.

DJ Pete Sherriff is compère for the night, playing a mix of tracks and videos, old & new, then introducing the live music performances from 9pm with the resident boogie-woogie piano support followed by main performance.
