An Evening with Sinatra

Wed 10 April 2024

Critically acclaimed for his vocal finesse, charm and charisma, you can be excused for believing James McAllister really is the “Chairman of the Board”, regularly performing with the likes of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The Rat Pack Live!, BBC Big Band winners Fat Chops and many more.

Tonight’s show is the brainchild of jazz pianist, Edgar Macías. The project is inspired by Sinatra’s rare recordings with a small band from his Radio Days show, “To Be Perfectly Frank”, broadcast in the early ‘fifties where he performed a 15 min show live –  twice a week – for two years.

Other inspirations for Edgar include Sinatra’s collaboration with the Red Norvo Sextet during a tour in Australia in ’59, the Paris Concert with Sextet, live in ’62, the saloon songs with his pianist Bill Miller, and later on, in ’67, the collaboration with the Brazilian composer & singer/guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim, singing bosa nova.

Edgar Macías has also adapted some well-known Big Band arrangements of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ hits by the likes of Nelson Riddle, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, and Don Costa to play in the small combo setting

This show is one not to be missed as Edgar Macías Quartet presents An Evening of Sinatra with James McAllister alongside Chris Bowden, on flute, alto & tenor sax, Bill Colman on bass, Miles Levin on drums, and, of course, Edgar Macías on piano.
