Yolanda Charles’ Project pH
Wed 19 June 2024
Tonight’s jazz feature at the Jam House is the soulful and heavily funky Project pH headed by bassist Yolanda Charles, with Nick Linnik, on lead guitar, whose role has expanded to co-writer and co-producer of the band’s sound. Groove player Nico Py lays it down on drums and on keyboards is Hamish Balfour. Guest vocalists provide superb soulful delivery, highlighting Yolanda’s eclectic song writing skills.
Yolanda Charles MBE – the internationally renowned bassist and songwriter, started her career playing for Jimmy Sommerville (The Communards) and then quickly became the bass foundation of various groups in the burgeoning ‘acid jazz’ scene of the early 1990’s. The ‘High Priestess Of Funk’ (Bass Guitar magazine) has worked with artists such as Hans Zimmer, Paul Weller, Robbie Williams, BB King, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson in a exemplary career of thirty years and counting.
